Premiered online on Wednesday 11 November and commissioned as part of the Brent 2020, London Borough of Culture, Our Journeys is a new 30 minute film by digital artists Addictive TV. The film collects interviews with Brent residents describing the struggles and challenges in their lives which brought them to the UK and Brent, with heart-wrenching human stories of resilience that touch upon war, disability, religion and happy memories.
For Brent 2020, the project was originally conceived as a live cinema performance, which audiovisual artists Addictive TV are more known for, to be presented at The Kiln Theatre in Kilburn but due to the ongoing pandemic is now presented as a short documentary. "We had to halt production during lockdown” director Graham Daniels explains “and when it soon became clear that with our partner venue closed and performances unlikely to happen before next year, we had to adapt the project”.
Our Journeys, is helmed by Addictive TV‘s Daniels with a soundtrack by himself and Michael Neo, with Sri Lankan percussionist Ghow Ratnarajah, British Paraorchestra pianist Kevin Satizabal and flautist Peter Bosher - all three of whom are members of the Inner Vision Orchestra, the UK’s only blind ensemble.
The film is produced with the cooperation of Brent charity the Asian People’s Disability Alliance and features the charity’s board members Pradip Shah and Michael Jeewa, alongside other Brent locals including fashion designer Tahera 'TJ' Chaudhry and fine artist Sonya Radan.
