MEET THE BLUEPRINT COLLECTIVE
Joshua Hall, a member of the Blueprint Collective, founded a social enterprise called Drip Punch Drinks when he was just 15. They were planning to release a special Brent 2020 bottle label, to celebrate Brent being London's borough of culture, with 10p from every bottle sold donated to the City Mission Youth Club in Craven Park. In light of the Covid-19 outbreak Drip have put this plan on ice and will now be bottling and supplying a 100% natural health called drink called Plenus C, made with sea moss, alkaline water and baobab.
I’m Joshua Hall. A few years ago, with two friends, we won a competition at a local Youth Club (City Mission Community Enterprise) and used our prize money to develop a favourite drink of mine, based on my Grandma's recipe which she used to make for lunch on Sunday afternoons.
We now run a social enterprise called Drip Punch which makes and distributes Tropical Fruit Punch juice to around forty shops and cafes across North, West and East London. People tell us that our drinks remind us of their childhood and they’re right - the recipe we use, has been passed through hundreds of local families since the Windrush generation arrived.
Being a social enterprise company means we sell delicious juices and also have a passion to turn around the prospects of young people, others have given up on. As a youth run business, we employ young people who have no previous work experience and the profits that we make are reinvested into our local youth club so that they may be able to keep the space open for other young people to come and benefit from the space and support provided by the organisation.
We hope both to be a sustainable business but also to secure investment from philanthropic organisations to broaden our activities and how we help people. At the moment, in partnership with the Ultrapreneurs we have plans to embark on delivering free business workshops and mentoring in schools, to teach other young people how to build their own businesses. We believe that we can share our journey and story with others to inspire them to lead positive lives.
Starting and continuing Drip Punch has been fun but hard. Our main challenge has been expanding production quickly. We had to go from supplying five shops to supplying forty in just three months. We've had to deal with machines breaking down, stock being stolen plus having too many orders to fulfill in a short space of time. Nonetheless, through perseverance and diligence we managed to overcome our struggles and continue to pursue our dreams.
There is definitely an atmosphere of entrepreneurship in Brent - people are up for trying new things here. With the right idea and hard work, anything is possible.
